Wow, I wish I lived in Georgia so I could vote for this guy. It’s an absolute pity that the GOP abandoned the principle of State’s rights which is enshrined in the Constitution. If only more of them were like Ron Paul and Ray McBerry, and realized that State sovereignty is an energizing, winning issue in many States, and not just the ‘red’ ones. People are sick and tired of that federal empire telling them how to live their lives. It’s not even about Obama, Bush, or Clinton… this tyranny goes back to FDR.
I hope to God that this guy gets elected down in GA. With Georgia standing up to Washington, I seriously doubt Texas would allow itself to be so easily outdone, and would probably start getting more assertive with the feds, with more States to follow. Perhaps I’m just being too optimistic, but if we the people can pull this off in a dozen or so States, maybe, just maybe, we can bring the federal government back into compliance with the Constitution.
Ravi – he sure seems to be doing the right thing there in GA. I’m inviting him to be a guest on the Tenth Amendment Center podcast….would be interesting to hear what he believes a 10th amendment governor can do.
Michael,
Thanks for sharing this. I have been investigating McBerry’s website and I am glad there will be a strong candidate for Governor here in Georgia to work towards invoking states rights.
He is proposing 8 pieces of legislation to be brought before the Georgia General Assembly over a period of time.
I will be keeping a close eye on his campaign and hope to talk with him soon.
Lou – thanks for the input. good to get some perspective from someone right there in GA. We’re hoping to be running some articles and press releases from Ray in the near future.
Thanks Michael… it’s good to know that more and more of us are finally waking up to what’s going on. And it’s exciting to know that there are candidates out there who truly do believe in the vision of our Founders.
I agree with Rey McBerry the State needs to once again tell the Federal government: “Get the Hell out of our Business and leave our People alone.” This is essential if we are to have and maintain any system by which the federal government can be compelled to follow a limited set of powers granted to it rather then simply grant itself an unlimited set of powers unopposed as it has done over the last 100 years.
His reference with regard to someone trying to sue Georgia (depriving the state of it’s of sovereign immunity) resulted in the 11th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, clarifying to the court its limitations. This limitation would not be over turned until more then a 100 years later when a future court in the mid 20th century reinterpreted the 14th amendment as to enable congress to nullify state sovereign immunity.
We need Democrats AND Republican running on this, States rights can’t be a partisan issue; it is an issue of constitutional limited and checked government that effects All Americans left and right in the most dire of ways over the long run.
We the people can’t be expected to constantly be up in arms keeping government in its place; we got jobs and lives to deal with. Our Government on the other hand as the basic nature of its job is and can. This is because as it is the job of Government to protect our rights actively so we don’t have to. In the case of protecting our rights from excessive federal Government, as well as common criminals that is the responsibility of our State governments.
This is how our system of checks and balances works, and believe it or not, you have a lot less to fear from a too powerful State government which cannot keep you within its realm of control then a too powerful federal government which can.
We the people have two means of checking the States (ballot box and feet), but only one means of checking the federal government (ballot box). It is exactly this redundancy that makes the State the most ideal government to weld the vast majority of the necessary government powers. That is why it is vital that our states and state leaders be motivates and encouraged to defend our states Constitutional powers and rights jealously with all due force.
Weather you like this guy and all of his policy’s, the only way we are going to constrain the power of the federal government and restore the checks on which our liberty depends will be thou the States NOT federal leaders, because states leaders are the only peoples who natural power interest will motivate them to protect our rights, rather than simply usurp them.
Monorprise – great input – hard to add to your perspective here. Thank you!
