Texas versus the Federal Government?

Bookmark and Share

from the Office of Texas Gov. Rick Perry

Gov. Rick Perry on Thursday joined state Rep. Brandon Creighton and sponsors of House Concurrent Resolution (HCR) 50 in support of states’ rights under the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

“I believe that our federal government has become oppressive in its size, its intrusion into the lives of our citizens, and its interference with the affairs of our state,” Gov. Perry said.

“That is why I am here today to express my unwavering support for efforts all across our country to reaffirm the states’ rights affirmed by the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I believe that returning to the letter and spirit of the U.S. Constitution and its essential 10th Amendment will free our state from undue regulations, and ultimately strengthen our Union.”

A number of recent federal proposals are not within the scope of the federal government’s constitutionally designated powers and impede the states’ right to govern themselves. HCR 50 affirms that Texas claims sovereignty under the 10th Amendment over all powers not otherwise granted to the federal government.

It also designates that all compulsory federal legislation that requires states to comply under threat of civil or criminal penalties, or that requires states to pass legislation or lose federal funding, be prohibited or repealed.

HCR 50 is authored by Representatives Brandon Creighton, Leo Berman, Bryan Hughes, Dan Gattis and Ryan Guillen.

  2. We the People support your efforts and offer you our help in reigning in this encroachment from the Federal Government. There are more of us out across this beautiful Free country that stand for States rights. Our children need to educated on the power “We Americans” still have to change this Republic.

  3. This is one nut. Those who support this crap would also support slavery.

  4. How can anyone possibly not see the rapid and dramatic increase of federal government control and regulation in the last few months. Just because one does not want to live in socialist country one is not racist. That is a cheap shot and a severely outdated argument. The government’s answer to everything right now is to throw money and regulation to every facet of society. Good for you Gov. Perry! You have my support. Its time we stopped accepting that everything we have worked so hard for has to be erased overnight!!

  5. Texas Gov Rick Perry, as you know, announced that he was not going to accept the string laden extended unemployment bail out from Washington, and the USG was going to send it to the state legislature to to accept. Last week, I read that it had passed the State Senate and would be sent to the House. Below is a file saying “Texas qualified” on Apr 13, which corresponds almost to the day he first announced his refusal. Unemployed persons can apply Monday for the 2 weeks prior.
